Timing and spacing is important to make an animation realistic. The timing of an animation of a ball bounce could vary base on what kind of ball is being animated. A tennis ball would have larger amounts of time between each bounce than a bowling ball. The spacing in an animation is what gives it a realistic look. Cartoon animations of a ball have different spacing than realistic animations of a ball. Without spacing and timing, an animation would look unnatural and unsettling.
