History of Animation- Steamboat Willie
One aspect of animation that changed it forever, was Steamboat Willie. This Disney animation short was the first time audio was choreographed and synchronized with an animation. This was a big step for animation because before this, theatres would have to hire musicians if they wanted sound. Though synchronized audio was brand new, the audiences loved it. Steamboat Willie was not only introduced synchronized sound, it was Walt Disney’s best known animation of its day. Though it’s not as popular as before, many people would recognize it from the clip in Disney’s future shorts and movies. Steamboat Willie became so popular that, the term “mickey mousing” came to be
synonymous with closely choreographed on-screen action and sound. Steamboat Willie helped animation become what it is today, something that is loved and enjoyed by people of all ages.
